you@asklucid.app is this true?
asklucid.appFalse. This has circulated as an internet hoax since 2015. No police reports or news outlets have ever logged an arrest, and fact-checkers like Snopes confirmed it's fabricated.
The post is AI-generated too.

How it works
Find the post
Any public post or Reel you are not sure about. A news claim, a photo that looks too good, a product someone swears by, a warning doing the rounds.
Tag and ask
Comment @asklucid.app with your question. Plain words are fine: "is this true?", "is this AI?", "is this a scam?".
Read the reply in the thread
Lucid runs the same check as the app and replies under your comment: the verdict word, what it found, and where it found it.
Your question picks the check
The same four questions the app asks all work from a comment. Anything else gets the claim check.
- Is this true? / Is this real?
- Checks the claim against the evidence. If the post has a picture or video, Lucid checks it for signs of AI as well, since "real" can mean the story or the image.
- Is this AI? / Is it photoshopped?
- Checks the picture or video for signs of AI generation or editing.
- Is this a scam? / Is this legit?
- Checks the post against known scam patterns and live reports.
- Is it worth buying? / Any good?
- Checks whether the seller is real and what buyers say about the product, from reviews and reputation sites rather than the seller’s own copy.
Why reply in the comments?
Most fact-checks turn up days later on a website most people never visit. By then the post has done the rounds, and almost nobody who saw it goes looking for the correction.
The argument happens in the comments, so that's where the evidence should be. A reply in the thread is there for everyone who scrolls down to see whether the post is real, right next to the claim it's about.
When Lucid can't reply
Instagram limits what Lucid can read and where it can reply, so comment checks don't work everywhere.
- Ads
- Instagram does not let Lucid read posts that are being run as ads from a comment. Ads are no problem in the Lucid app: share the post or screenshot it there.
- Pages that filter comments
- Some accounts hide or filter replies on their posts, so Lucid’s answer may never show up in the thread, even though it was sent.
- Private accounts and stories
- From a comment, Lucid can only see public posts, Reels and carousels. In the app, sign in to Instagram once (Instagram’s own login, Lucid never sees your password) to check private and age-restricted posts. For a story, screenshot it and share it to the app.
- The odd missed tag
- Instagram does not pass on every tag, and an account that has blocked Lucid cannot receive a reply at all.
No reply? Screenshot the post and share it to the Lucid app. It runs the full check from there.
